Following on from the dull 1-1 draw at home to Brentford, its easy to see why Leeds need strength in depth and the loan window could be a perfect opportunity for Uwe Rosler to add to the squad.
Leeds need to bring in a striker on loan. When it isn't going well for main man Chris Wood, United need to be able to bring him off and preserve his fitness because I doubt he will be able last the full 90 minutes in every game this season. Mirco Antenucci is firing for Leeds this season however, he would prefer to play alongside a strike partner. It is also thought that Antenucci has already told the manager he will not play on the wing this season. Leeds have Lee Erwin available for selection however, it seems like they're keen on sending him out on loan and slowly introducing him into the starting line-up once he returns with some games under his belt.
Kyle Lafferty has been linked with a move to Elland Road over the past week and he stated in a recent interview he would like the idea of linking up with international team-mate and Leeds winger Stuart Dallas. One thing is for sure, Leeds need an extra alternative up top. Someone who is experienced and can play as a lone striker to give Wood the competition he needs.
United need to bring in another defender to partner Sol Bamba in my opinion. The captain has been solid this season and is maybe let down by his centre-back partner, whether that be Liam Cooper or Giuseppe Bellusci. If you watched the Brentford game on Saturday, you'd have noticed Cooper deliver a bit of class and make a huge mistake. The defender made a last ditch tackle which if worse came to worse, the opposition would have scored. Now, would Bellusci have made that tackle? Or would he have missed the ball, took the man and saw the inevitable red card being pulled out from the referees pocket? Most likely the latter. On the other hand, Silvestri played a pass out to Cooper which resulted in him miss-controlling the ball and Brentford hitting the post. Now, would Bellusci have made that mistake? I think he is relatively good on the ball so probably not. This is why it is hard to split the two defenders and maybe it's the reason why Leeds need a more reliable, level-headed defender.
Don't get me wrong, I think Liam Cooper will definitely improve as he is still only young. Plus he loves the club which is a bonus. But the demand for an extra centre-back is certainly there as well as bringing in another striker.
agree wholeheartedly with everything you wrote.
ReplyDeleteCooper had to make up for the mistakes of Silvestri, Bamba and Berardi on Saturday. He was our best defender. We don't need strikers, we need to link up play from the back to the front. And block teams who walk straight through our middle. Murphy must play. He's the only one prepared to step back to his central defenders, pick up the ball and carry it forward. When he's not there, Cooper tends to hoof a long diagonal up to Byram on the right wing. And Bamba just stumbles forward like a headless chicken, then can't get back after he's lost the ball and the other team break. We need 4-4-2 at home. And, yes, Antenucci is wasted on the wing. For Ipswich: Silvestri; Berardi, Bamba, Cooper, Taylor; Byram, Cook, Murphy, Dallas; Antenucci, Wood.
ReplyDeleteWhy not bring in another 10 then we can use 40 players like we seem to do every year?
ReplyDeleteOr
We could possibly develop the twenty players employed by the club and possibly add a couple of the under 21s to the first team squad.
I agree that Doukara, Sloth and Wooton don't seem to be pulling their weight but whilst they are employees of the club we must give them a chance.
I am sick of the mentality of bringing in short term signings like Habbibu, Cani, Cippaldi etc, etc, you clearly are not!
Cooper did not miss control that pass, it was a shocking pass from the keeper no where near him, I believe that Cooper has been solid since he has been in and seems to be getting alot of stick for nothing, bamba was all over the shop on Saturday,
